The Lao People\u2019s Democratic Republic system for Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) includes Lao Traditional Medicine, Theravada Buddhist healing and ethnic minority healing traditions. Common practices include the use of herbal decoctions, steam therapy, traditional massage, acupuncture, cupping, spiritual and ritual healing, herbal inhalers and traditional midwifery rooted in oral tradition and animist cosmologies.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health oversees the development of TCIM through the Institute of Traditional Medicine, which is responsible for policy coordination, training, service delivery and regulation. Traditional Medicine units are integrated into some central and provincial hospitals, while the cultivation and sustainable use of medicinal plants are promoted to enhance both public health and local economic
