Nepal has a culturally accepted and socially deep-rooted Traditional Medicine system since time immemorial. The traditional system of Medicine comprises of Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Sowa Rigpa, local community traditional healing, herbalism, Shamanism, traditional birth attendant services, traditional bone healers and spiritual care practices. Traditional Medicine healers diagnose and treat patients with their age-old techniques and treatment recipes. The government Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) health facility offers blended methods of diagnostic services and care with a people-centric approach. The Traditional Medicine system is the foremost means of accessing primary health care in rural areas. Nepal\u2019s Traditional Medicine history is glorified by the 400-year-old government-owned Ayurveda Pharmacy (Singha Durbar Vaidyakhana), which produces medicines for the public\u2019s needs.<\/span><\/p>\n

The TCIM services are well sanctioned in federalized health system from a Local Citizen Wellness Centre (Nagarik Arogya Kendra) in each local administrative unit to the tertiary level National Central Hospital. There is a TCIM ecosystem in place across the country which is functioning well. It consists of university and academia, training and research centres, health service facilities, medicine production, an apex administrative body for programming, and a planning and regulatory agency for Ayurveda and alternative medicine services. Approximately 3.5 million people receive Ayurveda and alternative medicine services annually. The Ministry of Health and Population provides resources and means through the Department of Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine, making TCIM services accessible throughout the
