The Culturally Safe Childbirth Promotion Tool was developed by PAHO based on consensus regarding good maternal and neonatal practices and criteria related to the quality of care in health services. Its main purpose is to identify whether maternal health services are integrating an intercultural approach in the care provided during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period for women belonging to different ethnic groups. The instrument focuses on Indigenous women but can be adapted for use with Afro-descendant women or those belonging to other ethnic groups.
