Qatar has undertaken a structured and evidence-based regulatory journey to establish a safe and effective Traditional and Complementary Medicine framework under the oversight of the Ministry of Public Health, through the Department of Healthcare Professions. The development process began in 2014 with a comprehensive gap analysis and benchmarking. This guided the introduction of regulatory standards, for recognized modalities, including <\/span>hijama<\/span><\/i> (cupping), medical massage therapy, acupuncture, Ayurveda, osteopathy, chiropractic and homeopathy. A pilot implementation phase ensured practical assessment of the regulatory mechanisms before full-scale rollout. The Department of Healthcare Professions continues to monitor and enhance these regulations to ensure compliance, safety and alignment with global developments. Future directives include the expansion of additional Traditional and Complementary Medicine modalities based on evolving national health care needs, reflecting Qatar\u2019s commitment to promoting safe, effective and patient-centred complementary health care services.<\/span><\/p>\n

Building on this regulatory foundation, Qatar is actively initiating and integrating Traditional and Complementary Medicine into its broader health care and academic landscape. Initiatives are underway to incorporate Traditional and Complementary Medicine principles into medical and health sciences curricula, fostering interprofessional education and awareness among future health care providers. Collaboration with Qatar University\u2019s Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine research network plays a pivotal role in advancing this vision by serving as a multidisciplinary platform for scientific research, policy development, collaboration and partnership, publications, and awareness and education. These collective efforts aim to enhance evidence-based application and promote innovation through knowledge exchange \u2013 ensuring that Qatar\u2019s Traditional and Complementary Medicine framework remains dynamic, inclusive and responsive to global health
