Pakistan\u2019s Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) system encompasses a rich diversity of practices including Unani (Greco\u2013Arabic) medicine, homeopathy, herbal remedies, Islamic healing traditions and other Indigenous therapies. Unani medicine is widely practiced by <\/span>hakims<\/span><\/i> (traditional practitioners) who use pulse diagnosis, herbal formulations, dietary regimens and spiritual therapies. Homeopathy is also formally recognized and practiced across the country. These systems are deeply rooted in cultural traditions and continue to serve as accessible health care options, particularly in rural and underserved communities. While some TCIM modalities are integrated into public health services, most are accessed through private practitioners and community-based outlets.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan<\/span><\/a> (DRAP) regulates TCIM products through its Division of Health and OTC (non-drugs) Products, under the framework of the Alternative Medicines and Health Products (Enlistment) Rules, 2014. This division is responsible for the enlistment, evaluation and oversight of manufacturers, importers and products related to Unani, homeopathy, herbal, Ayurvedic, Chinese and other traditional systems. All entities must comply with Good Manufacturing Practices and product safety standards. DRAP also regulates nutraceuticals, probiotics and food supplements under the same framework. These regulatory efforts aim to ensure the safety, efficacy and quality of TCIM products, contributing to Pakistan\u2019s broader goals of universal health coverage and culturally appropriate health care delivery.
