Lebanon has a diverse and deeply rooted Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) landscape shaped by a shared blend of rural herbalism, community-based folk practices and longstanding local healing traditions that cut across regions and communities. Folk medicine is transmitted primarily through families, local herbalists and traditional healers, and remains practised nationwide. Ethnobotanical surveys\u00a0(including <\/span>a 2022 study in the Shouf Biosphere Reserve<\/span><\/a>)\u00a0document the extensive use of medicinal plants and confirm that herbalists, bone-setters and spiritual healers continue to be consulted for digestive disorders, diabetes, hypertension, reproductive concerns and psychosomatic conditions. Traditional postpartum care is also widely practised, involving herbal preparations, dietary strengthening rituals, warming techniques, abdominal binding and a range of spiritual protective practices used to safeguard mothers and newborns. <\/span>National-level research on Complementary and Alternative Medicine<\/span><\/a> use among Lebanese adults further highlighted\u00a0the widespread reliance on herbal remedies and traditional health practices.<\/span><\/p>\n

Several studies note that traditional knowledge is increasingly diluted due to urbanization, lifestyle changes and the weakening of intergenerational transmission. While TCIM regulation remains limited, some complementary modalities, such as acupuncture and homeopathy, are offered in private clinics. Academic institutions contribute through pharmacognosy studies\u00a0that explore\u00a0the properties and local uses of medicinal plants; however, these programmes do not constitute formal training pathways in Traditional Medicine practice, underscoring the need to strengthen applied research, documentation and capacity-building to preserve Lebanon\u2019s traditional medical
