Traditional healers (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tabibs<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), herbalists and midwives treat ailments using medicinal plants, oils, cupping (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hijama<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and spiritual care, reflecting a rich Indigenous heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To ensure the effective development, regulation and integration of Traditional Medicine into the national health system, the Deputy Minister for Food and Drug at the Ministry of Public Health is leading the regulation of Traditional Medicine through the following activities:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Licensing all Traditional Medicine establishments, including centres and practitioners, to ensure compliance with health, safety and ethical standards and to provide formal oversight and accountability;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Registering all Traditional Medicine products, such as herbal medicines and related remedies, to ensure quality, safety and adherence to national standards;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conducting regular inspections and monitoring of establishments to verify compliance with health, safety and ethical standards;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organizing professional examinations and defining competency standards to enhance practitioner qualifications and credibility;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Developing technical guidelines and regulatory frameworks for the safe and standardized use of medicinal plants and traditional methods;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Promoting and supporting scientific research to document the therapeutic value and effectiveness of traditional remedies;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raising public awareness through education and outreach on the safe, evidence-based, and responsible use of traditional medicine; and<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Establishing an integrated information management system to manage data on establishments, licenses, registered products, inspections and herbal products for transparency and coordination.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Through these actions, the Afghanistan Food and Drug Authority ensures that Traditional Medicine in Afghanistan is safe, credible and scientifically integrated into the national health
