Suriname\u2019s Traditional Medicine systems reflect the country\u2019s extraordinary cultural diversity, including Indigenous Arawak, Carib and Trio knowledge; Maroon (<\/span>Afro-descendant<\/span>) healing practices; and Javanese, Chinese and Indian traditions. Forest-based medicine, ritual healing and herbalism are widely practised, especially in Indigenous and Maroon communities of the interior.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health has supported projects focused on medicinal plant research and biodiversity conservation, and has collaborated with local communities on documenting traditional healing practices. While national policy integration remains in development, Traditional Medicine is recognized as vital in rural and remote areas with limited biomedical
