Panama is a Central American country with a population of 4\u00a0064\u00a0780 inhabitants, of which 17.2% (698\u00a0114) self-identified as Indigenous, according to the 2023 census. Panama is made up of seven clearly defined Indigenous Peoples with their own cultures and languages \u200b\u200b(Naso Tj\u00ebr-Di, Ember\u00e1, Wounaan, Bri Bri, Ng\u00e4be, Bugl\u00e9 and Kuna). Each is constituted by regional laws and collective territories and is traditionally structured into 10 congresses and two councils, which are traditional institutions governed by their own administrative rules and internal regulations.<\/span><\/p>\n

It comprises three Indigenous regions with provincial status (Kuna Yala, Ember\u00e1 Wounaan, Ng\u00e4be Bugl\u00e9 and Naso Tj\u00ebr-Di), each with a regional governor, and two districts with the level of <\/span>corregimiento<\/span><\/i> (administrative subdivision; similar to a sub-district) (Kuna de Madungand\u00ed and Kuna de Wargand\u00ed), which make up a total of 12 districts and 81 <\/span>corregimientos<\/span><\/i> across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Panama, Indigenous Traditional Medicine requires and deserves to be protected, disseminated, respected, practiced and recognized as an essential component of our peoples. Therefore, through Law 17 of 2016, the protection of Indigenous Traditional Medicine knowledge and the promotion of a comprehensive vision are established, allowing for the harmonization of Traditional Medicine with academic or conventional medicine within the health system. Executive Decree 39 also regulates Law 17 of June 2016, which establishes the protection of Indigenous Traditional Medicine knowledge. We will focus on preserving and sharing the ancestral knowledge of Panama’s Indigenous communities in the field of Traditional Medicine, used for centuries by our Indigenous Peoples, promoting health through the use of nature, achieving a connection between Mother Earth and
