Sierra Leone\u2019s Traditional Medicine systems are rooted in the practices of Mende, Temne, Limba and other Indigenous communities, integrating herbal medicine, ancestral worship, spiritual divination and secret society healing. Traditional practitioners, including\u00a0<\/span>sowei<\/span><\/i>\u00a0(female healers) and herbalists, are widely consulted and play critical roles in rites of passage, maternal care and mental well-being.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health recognizes Traditional Medicine through national health strategies, especially in community-based disease surveillance and maternal health programmes. The country\u2019s post-conflict and post-Ebola health recovery frameworks emphasized the inclusion of trusted local healers in risk communication and culturally adapted
