Sao Tome and Principe\u2019s Traditional Medicine reflects an African Creole heritage, shaped by Bantu, Portuguese colonial and island-specific healing influences. Local practitioners, including herbalists and spiritual healers, use medicinal plants, ritual baths, prayer and massage to address everyday health concerns. These practices remain widespread in community life, particularly on the islands\u2019 rural fringes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health has supported initial research and community engagement on Traditional Medicine. While a formal integration policy is not yet in place, there is increasing attention to documenting local medicinal flora and supporting healers in basic public health outreach, including maternal health and
