Mauritius has a vibrant and diverse Traditional Medicine culture, shaped by African, Indian, Chinese and European influences. Practices include Ayurveda, Chinese herbalism, Creole home remedies and plant-based medicine used by local herbalists known as\u00a0<\/span>tisaneurs<\/span><\/i>. These systems are part of family care traditions and are also linked to religious and cultural rituals.<\/span><\/p>\n

The government has taken concrete steps to integrate Traditional Medicine into the national health strategy. The\u00a0Ayurveda and Other Traditional Medicines Act\u00a0regulates Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine practice. Public clinics offer Ayurvedic care alongside biomedicine and the Ministry of Health and Wellness supports practitioner licensing, research and
