In Malawi, Traditional Medicine is a core element of community health, practised widely by Chewa, Tumbuka, Yao and other Indigenous groups. Healers \u2013 commonly referred to as\u00a0<\/span>asing\u2019anga<\/span><\/i> \u2013 employ herbal remedies, ritual cleansing, divination and ancestral communication to treat physical and psychosocial conditions. Traditional birth attendants and herbalists continue to be key sources of care, especially in underserved rural areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health has acknowledged the role of Traditional Medicine through national dialogues and has collaborated with associations of healers on basic training, community sensitization and HIV\/AIDS-related outreach. Although a formal integration policy is under development, coordination between biomedical and traditional systems is growing at the district
