Kenya has a rich diversity of Traditional Medicine systems that reflect the cultural knowledge of over 40 ethnic groups, including Kikuyu, Luo, Luhya, Kalenjin and Maasai. Traditional health practices commonly include herbal medicine, spiritual healing, bone-setting and <\/span>initiation-related care<\/span>. Traditional birth attendants and elders play key roles in maintaining family and community well-being, especially in rural and pastoralist areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health formally acknowledges the importance of Traditional Medicine and a national policy was introduced to regulate and integrate it within the broader health system. A Directorate of Traditional and Alternative Medicine supports the development of guidelines, healer associations and research initiatives. Some county-level health services have begun piloting collaborative programmes with registered traditional
