Herbalists, diviners and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">marabouts<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (religious healers) play a prominent role in community health, offering treatments that address physical ailments, spiritual concerns and social disharmony. Medicinal plants are widely used, particularly for malaria, gastrointestinal and reproductive conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gambian Ministry of Health has supported dialogue around the formal recognition of Traditional Medicine and its integration into national strategies. While a comprehensive national policy is in development, the country has participated in WHO-led initiatives and community-based knowledge-sharing efforts. Traditional birth attendants and herbalists often work in parallel with primary care
