Ethiopia\u2019s Traditional Medicine systems are among the most long-standing and diverse in Africa, drawing from the rich knowledge of Oromo, Amhara, Tigray, Somali and many other cultural groups. Practices include herbal medicine, spiritual healing, bone-setting and\u00a0<\/span>zar<\/span><\/i>\u00a0spirit ceremonies. Religious institutions \u2013 both Christian and Islamic \u2013 have historically played a significant role in healing, often intertwined with Indigenous methods.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health formally recognizes Traditional Medicine through its national health policy and efforts are underway to integrate it into the national health system. The Traditional and Modern Medicine Research and Development Directorate was established to coordinate research, practitioner registration and standard setting. Universities also support training and ethnopharmacological
